Marita believes in the human capacity to heal from painful experiences, and the power of supportive relationships. Her goal as a therapist is to start where each person finds themselves in life and help uncover their strength and goals. Marita has experience in offering tools and strategies that help manage everyday challenges and is able to also support others in exploring deeper issues such as grief and trauma.
Marita draws from several established therapeutic practices and continues to learn from new developments in the field. In addition to traditional psychotherapy approaches, Marita is informed by experiential modalities that access non-verbal avenues of healing, such as mindfulness, somatic techniques and expressive art-based activities.
Prior to joining Liffey Health, Marita supported children and adolescents in community health and school settings. She earned an MA in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University and has completed additional training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), expressive art therapies and mindfulness practices.
In her first career Marita covered news and stories as a reporter in Europe and the US. Originally from a Nordic country, she has lived in the Bay Area for nearly thirty years. Marita cherishes time with family and friends and enjoys being in nature, walking her dog, cooking, arts, and traveling.
